3x Over The Limit

Western Bay of Plenty police have nabbed a driver with one of the highest blood alcohol readings they have encountered.

It was an alcohol reading of over 1780 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath, well over three times the legal adult limit.

This motorist was spotted at 1.45pm on State Highway 2, Te Puke and reported by a member of the public as weaving over the road.

The driver, a 55 year old Ohope man had travelled from Whakatane and is believed to have been making his way to Hamilton.

Senior Sergeant Campion said that despite widespread media coverage and consistent targeting of drunk and drugged drivers the message was still not sinking in with some motorists.

Among four drink drivers apprehended by the Western Bay of Plenty Traffic Alcohol group between 3-9am this morning, one had results exceeding 1000 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath.
