How It’s Looking: Remuera
Platform modifications at Remuera train station are part of the work going on in Auckland’s Summer rail development.
Exactly a year ago at Remuera during the 2010 Summer work, tracks were lowered so the electric wires could be placed under the tunnel at the station -Photos of that are here.
Here is how today’s work is looking:

hi Jon
Thanks for the photos. Any chance of seeing what’s happening at Papatoetoe. Apart from the new bridge they are replacing sleepers and possibly working on the platform
@Patrick I am holidaying in Brisbane but as you notice my little helpers are out covering the various work areas so watch this space!
What are they doing here this year? Is the platform being extended along beside the station building or is it improvements to the current stretch?
They are changing the platform height because after lowering the tracks last year Kiwirail discovered that a particular type of freight wagon didn`t have enough clearance height going past the station anymore! Doh!
hi Jon
thanks, I’ll be watching this space!!
Please tell me that little hut at the end will be pulled down soon…
Kel - That hut is a historic building so it can’t be pulled down, in fact it has just been repainted and the station building itself will get the same treatment when the trust that looks after them gets enough money to do the job.
@Kel, the Remuera Railway Station Preservation Trust has done a great job preserving the signal box. I’m thrilled the trust is now fundraising to do up the adjourning railway station building, which is closed off to the public station area. We don’t want only modern shelters around the network when we could also see reminders of where Auckland rail came from.

I wonder how much it would cost to lift the station building up, so that the platform would be at the correct level. The Preservation Trust has already done a wonderful job on the signal box.
I think, keep the Station Building and extend the platform over it just like Swanson.
Are they doing work on Greenlane Station?
Nothing at Greenlane. Still the unloved station.
Thats a shame, Greenlane really does need a clean-up.

Enabling works start at Greenlane station February-March with the main construction of the platform extension being planned for April - May.
